MBA – Healthcare Administration & Leadership Virtual Information Session
Alright.
Hi, everyone. We'll get started in just a minute. I see our participants are logging in and hopefully you're getting connected. We'll give you just a second to make sure that you can hear us and see us.
Um, and we'll get started in just a second.
All right.
It looks like everybody is loaded in. Great.
Well, welcome everyone. My name is Jen Radwanski. I am the associate director for graduate admissions here at Stockton. And I'm so glad that you were able to join us for this virtual information session to learn more about our MBA and healthcare administration and leadership program here at Stockton. I know that we have a number of you who are joining us virtually alive, but then I also know that there may be some of you who are watching this pre recorded. And so whichever fashion you are joining us and learning more about this program, I thank you for being here.
If you are watching this live, there is a little chat feature on the side of your screen. If you have questions, please feel free to type your questions into the chat. I will be monitoring those during our presentation, but I also encourage you to maybe wait and save your questions towards the end because we may cover your question during the presentation. But feel free to use that chat feature if you're watching this prerecorded. We will also share information with you at the very end on how you can reach out to us with any additional questions.
You have after watching the video.
So without further ado, I am going to turn things over to my colleague Christian, who is our program chair for the MBA Health program. And person, would you like to introduce yourself and kick us off here?
Thank you, Jennifer, and hello, everybody.
All disease and.
Good morning for those of you in the East Coast.
And therefore wherever you might be.
My name is Christian ahlbrecht. I'm the chair for.
NBA program in healthcare administration and the leadership in Stockton. And I'm very pleased and excited to be here to share some insights about our program and explain to you how you'll be able to benefit from our program. So welcome to this section.
Umm.
The first thing that I would want to show you is the background of where we are actually located. And then I want to start with this story about this background.
When I was hired in Stockton to lead this program.
And my colleagues in my previous school started asking me why are you leaving?
I went behind one of the classrooms and I did a zoom and I told them listen.
My office is directly ocean viewed office.
And it was exciting, you know, to feel like you're in and in an environment that combines work and vacation at the same time. After all, we are talking about Atlantic City.
There is no other city like Atlantic City. And for those of you that may be seeing us internationally, I just want to make a proud remark. Atlantic City is in New Jersey and not in New York. And for those of you that are here in New Jersey with us, well is our proud gaming city.
But remember, Atlantic City is not only about games, it's also about economy. It's also about productivity, and it's also about academia, as you can see with the footprint of Stoughton right in Atlantic City. This is where our Graduate School is based. And a little background about this Mr. program.
Animal actually is a combination program that comes from the.
Public health and the Business School combined to equip to prepare people that would be very willing to tackle the challenges of healthcare businesses today and other challenges that are associated with our healthcare industry within this country and globally.
This program is housed in the Business School in School of Business, but with a lot a lot of affinities with health and public health.
So for instance, my first slide would have said why a Graduate School?
I don't think I'm going to spend a lot of time on this slide that says why Graduate School, because if you are here, it means you already know why you want to go to Graduate School.
Um, but maybe I will share my own experience with my dad.
Different from yours?
And one of the reasons I went to Graduate School was because.
When I completed my undergraduate, I completed it almost like an undecided.
So I had a degree that I was not sure that that was what I wanted to do in my life.
So I needed a degree that would be more career oriented.
That was why I went to Graduate School.
So I don't know what you have in mind coming to Graduate School, but I can tell you how Stockton is going to help you.
Get one is our Graduate School is going to help you advance your career.
Whether your career has been in healthcare or it has been in business or something outside, both healthcare and business.
That is one of the values you're going to get from starting program that our program is not specifically for people who have undergraduate degrees in healthcare or in business, is a multidisciplinary program that prepare every person to be able to walk and be productive and be successful within the healthcare industry or outside the healthcare industry. By the way, that is one of the things I'm going to talk about.
When we get down to the specifics of our M health program, that one of the advantages you're going to have with our program is.
On completion of the program, you will be able to tap into all the opportunities that are within the healthcare industry as much as that you'll be able to do any other work that any person that has a general MBA would be able to do.
One of the reasons also a lot of people come into Graduate School.
Is that the degree may provide you with tools, resources and the connections that you may not have otherwise. Particularly I will highlight that word connections, our network base. What you're going to do with alumni is what you're going to do with your colleagues and people that work went through the same cohort with you. The new faculty relationship you're going to have, the relationship you're going to have and all the continuous.
Supports lifelong support that we get from starting on completion of the program.
So why starting?
Our ML program is a unique has a unique curriculum.
42 credits NBA I know every day you are out there hearing stories and promises from.
101 universities about how you can complete their NBA in.
10 months in six months. I'm not here to tell you how good they are or how bad they are, but what I'm telling you is with Stockton, 42 credits for an MBA program, that is a plus.
And that out of these 42 credits you are getting 36 of them as score?
Courses concentrating on how to excel within the healthcare industry plus the optional electives that you can take from our General India program or even through an internship or even through a self study with very willing and eager faculty to mentor you and assist you throughout the program.
Don't forget about that. Stockton is very, very.
Quality and affordable in comparison with our competing schools.
Or other options that you might be contemplating on. Think about our quality, the value we add to your education and think about our affordability and the opportunities that we support you to be able to find the means and the funding to go through this education.
We have an open enrollment. That means you can comfortably start your education in fall or you can start in spring.
And that is not going to affect your progress regardless of which cohorts you decide to join with.
The idea that faculty is involved from the time you're thinking of the admission to the time you graduated, and after graduation that faculty are still there as your mentors.
Is a value that you will not want to miss. So we always proud on our faculty involvement as advisors and preceptors.
Graduate assistantship opportunities are available.
Including myself. Every semester I have somebody from the cohorts that is there assisting me either in my scholarship efforts or in my administrative efforts. So this adds to experiential learning and experience that students acquire for choosing Scott starting university. I didn't mention to you that we have a hybrid course delivery system.
What we really mean by hybrid?
Our hybrid system is not the birth of COVID. I know every school now talks about hybrid, talks about online, talks about residency, but our program has been designed originally to provide the benefits of.
Online delivery system and the residential delivery system.
So how does it work?
In this semester, you have a percentage of the cost attendance.
That the professors meet face to face or face to face plus zoom.
To talk with the students.
While throughout the semester you still have all the online tools like threaded discussions like other workshops that are done online and so on that you do the professor.
And we need that flexibility within the Professor and the students.
The proportion of.
The online and the Inclass participation or learning process.
We have our Graduate students Council that you'll be involved in.
We have our research opportunities.
We have our new graduate students, scholarships, systems.
We have a whole lot of other students services and by the way, I will take you back to our beautiful campus with ocean views and the classroom that are equipped with state of the arts classroom enable us to invite international guest speakers.
From wherever they are to speak during the class sections, through zoom presentations and other technological medias.
I would like as I'm going through this maybe because of time that yes, I'm rushing you. Please go ahead and type in your questions and comments on the chat. And then Jennifer is always very eager to help and bring up these questions and I'll be very happy to answer some of them specifically why our MBA in healthcare administration and leadership program.
Do you know that 23 to 28% of U.S. economy today?
Is healthcare industry related?
What that means in simple English is that one out of every four families in United States, their livelihood, their income is coming from a healthcare related industry.
That's a way of selling you MBA. Healthcare administration and leadership is not about working in hospitals alone.
It's about walking in every other aspect.
Of our healthcare and that healthcare being what I want, what out of the economy means, that is the cornerstone of U.S. economy and in worldwide we are talking about 17% of the world economy is healthcare related.
Do you know that the fastest growing industry in the US today, specific industry, is the pharmaceutical and the supply chain industries?
I don't need to remind you about the COVID, how the world became a global village and how the vaccines were able to be assembled within an unbelievable time with connections from all corners of the world. And by the way, remember that once one of the countries started having COVID and the pandemic problem, it trickles down and every other country of the world got affected. And guess what?
In this program, a part of what we are going to learn is also how to handle the aspects of pharmaceuticals and the supply chain. It's a part of the course we take in this program.
Lessons learned from the global and the pandemic is making it more.
Valuable and more indispensable that we think of the application of our theories and the knowledge, artificial intelligence and everything that can make us better managers and leaders within the healthcare industry. I would also want to remind you that all over the world is not just in the United States.
That's our physicians and the direct healthcare providers are getting burned outs. They are getting overwhelmed because of the amount of work they have to do.
And that is where we come in as managers and leaders to provide them with the needed motivation and the leadership and support they need to be able to continue delivering the service and making clinical decisions that are very, very important for the quality of life we live issues about health and quality and health disparity is not.
Unique to United States.
We know it that all over the world there is the problem between the haves and the have nots on access to healthcare.
In this program.
Through our seminars and the conversations and the case studies.
We if we, our students, now our graduates, to be able to identify and analyze and provide solutions and narrow the gap about health disparities and inequalities.
So this and among other reasons, are the reason that would be very willing to welcome you.
Remember, it's not just about hospitals. It's not just about medical practices. It's not just about pharmaceutical companies. Think about insurance companies, think about medical devices companies. Think about digital health and think about being an entrepreneur yourself, including entrepreneurship in the area of medical tourism, health tourism, and a whole lot of other areas. What can we do in the world?
Today without analytics and our program prepares you to be able to be comfortable in tackling problems of healthcare analytics and information systems. A lot of our graduates today are working also in the public sector. That means they are involved in decisions that affect our public health areas.
I would then open you up to say upon completion.
Definitely you have all these opportunities on these areas to work and again, like I said from the beginning.
It's not just about working in the healthcare industry.
When you graduates whatever any person that has a generic MBA from any university can do, you can do it. That a lot of what you can do with an NBA hall. People with general NBA may not be able to do it because of concentration specifics of our program.
By the way, the little picture on the side, I discovered that it's me in one of my classes and that gives you an idea of what our typical class looks like.
The next slide is going to is one of the endorsements that we we have a whole lot of other ones you can find in our website. But this one is very unique because this is from the CEO of the Atlantic healthcare systems and the comments she made about starting university.
I would continue in consideration with time to give you an idea of our degree map. What you can see here is how the degree is broken down like from first year and what you do in for what you do in spring, what you do in summer.
Your second year, what you do in four, what you do in spring and what you do in summer and we doing this.
Double concentrations you'll be able to do your electives, which is completely up to you. You can choose the latest from our general in BA programs. You can choose electives that we have in our NDA hall program.
Or like I said, you can decide to do independent study or do internship for your program.
At this point I would.
Invites. I don't want to bore you lectures.
That I want you to see a little video of what?
Once again, my name is Christian Ahlbrecht with more than 15 years experience in the academia and more than 10 years experience as a healthcare administration and leadership position. I will now hand you over to our Director of Admissions for further assistance. Jennifer.
Thank you so, so much and the the wealth of knowledge you just shared was just fantastic and so helpful. And I hope that the participants in our session today that really helps them in solidifying their decision on attending this program. And I love this video too that we were able to share with you all with one of our recent graduates from the program. Amanda, who you just saw in this video has just completed the program and and has talked very passionately about how much she has enjoyed the program. And I'm glad that we were able to capture that in this little video to share with you as well.
I want to take a couple of minutes and just talk a little bit further about what the application process looks like. We we talked about what the program itself entails and what you would be involved with if you were to be accepted to the program. But let's take just a minute to talk through. You know how do you apply for this program. So there are a couple of pieces. So number one, there is an application fee of $50.00 to apply for the program. In that you will need to supply us with a couple of pieces of material for us to review. Number one, we have to receive your.
Resume you can do all of this by uploading it into our system. It's very user friendly and if you do have any questions you can always reach out to us and we'd be happy to assist.
There is also an essay involved for all of our applications, and that application will be viewable. Or, excuse me, the essay will be viewable once you pay that application fee. So we get questions frequently. Well, how do I get to all this? Well, once you've done, you've started your application, you'll be able to see it. Next, you will be required to submit letters of recommendation. I always recommend that these recommenders should be individuals who can speak to your academic success. They should either be people.
Who have had you as a student previously or people who are working in the field of healthcare or or you know, business, so they could speak to the MBA side of things or to the healthcare side of things and speak to your ability to be academically successful in this program.
Uh, next, we also need to know that you have attended an A regionally accredited institution of higher education, and we will need to receive your official transcripts from those. In those places. You have to have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3 point O from the place where you received your degree. But the one thing I always want to share with people is that no matter where you went to school, we need all transcripts. So let's say you went to a Community College to start.
And then transferred to a four year institution, we would need a copy of the official transcript, not a copy. We need the official transcript sent to us from that school along with whatever institution you attended where you obtained your degree. So just keep that in mind. This also includes, if you did attend Stockton, we still need you to have your official transcript sent to us from the clearinghouse. So that's a really key piece to keep in mind and it does have to come from the school officially.
Uh, this is a little bit different for our international applicants, and I'll show you a little bit more about that in just a moment. But if you are an international applicant, your transcripts would need to be sent to us from a reviewing company like W ECE or Span Tran, and I'll show you where you can find that information in just a second. If you are coming from A and you are applying as an international student, we would also need to have a TOEFL exam or something equivalent to.
Have for your English proficiency.
And again, let's take a look at that. So next, this is our healthcare administration and leadership website. So all the things that we've talked about today can be found on this site. So I know you're probably taking lots of notes, but also know you can find this information here. You'll notice that we have our admissions criteria listed here. And so the things that I just reviewed with you are on here as a checklist as well as some prerequisite requirements that Christian touched upon, but going back to talk about our international applicants.
I want you to know that there are specific details here. The one thing I want to highlight most of all for our international applicants is that March 15th is the deadline for applying for this program for fall. So that gives you enough time to process your I-20 and your travel documentation to attend the program. For our stateside students, we have a little bit more time with that, and we'll take a look at that in a second, but again, for our international applicants, the details can be found here. March 15th, the deadline.
These are the details for you to supply us with the transcript evaluated by Wes ECE for Santram and where to have it sent to you, as well as the English proficiency testing information which can also be found here. If we go back though to our program, these are the full list of our programs here at Stockton, but specifically for MBA health.
Again, the admissions criteria is here. And for our fall, we are looking at a July 1 deadline. That's our priority deadline. You can start submitting your applications as of today. So just keep that in mind.
The last thing that I wanted to share with you all from this page, I know we have many questions about finances. How do you finance your education, which we are going to have another webinar just like this later this semester. So check that out. Our Office of Financial aid will be offering that for everyone to talk a little bit more about the opportunities for helping with finance. But as you can see here, you'd be looking at either in state or out of state tuition for our graduate programs and this is per credit, so you can kind of do the math.
For credit of how many credits you'd be taking, you know, per semester and to figure out your bill. This does not include housing or meals or anything of that nature. This is simply your per credit course to attend.
On the left, you'll also see the assistantships and graduate coordinator information and research fellowships. Christian had mentioned the assistantships in particular, but you can check those out there. And then at the bottom there's more information about scholarships.
You can also visit our financial aid web page and our bursars web page to learn more about loans and our payment plan options. And I'd be happy to chat with anyone who has questions further about those items as well. The last piece I also want to share with you is a detailed piece in regards to a promotion that we have with some of our local HealthCare Partners. We have a great partnership with these 4 institutions. In particular, our students have some abilities.
To do internships with them and in.
Conjunction with that, we also offer they, they offer a 20% discount to anyone who is working in these facilities for any of our programs. But in particular this program probably is is a really great asset to those who work in these four locations. So please check those out and again if you have any questions let us know. But that's just 20% discount through these employers.
So lastly, I just wanted to share our contact information again whether you're joining us virtually live or if you are watching this pre recorded, this is our contact information. You can schedule a one-on-one virtual appointment with me and I'd be happy to talk about any of these items further. I know doctor Arbucci also is always willing to talk with students and and talk about the experience and and talk through how this could best work for you. So between the two of us we'd be happy to assist.
I'm so happy down this information at this time. I want to open things up that if you do have questions to please go ahead and type those into the chat and we'd be happy to take questions from our live audience. Again, you know, if you want to follow up with us at another point, you can do so by contacting us here, but we'll go ahead and just give everyone a second to type any questions they have into the chat.
